The Nexus One was released just a month ago, and according to reports 80,000 units are already sold that is much more compared to the iPhone and Motorola Droid.
Both the iPhone and Motorola Droid offered marketing campaigns that positioned their models as expensive devices.
The Nexus One ad campaign was based on Google Ads and has a brief description on Google’s homepage. When customers wanted to avail the device they had to do that via the Google website.
As the website was not connected with a carrier, a big part of consumers was anxious about how it can influence on their contract. They were provided a new way of getting a phone and as it usually happens, people did not fell comfortable with “new.”
It should be mentioned that one of the first goals of Google was to break such pattern of buying mobile phones. You may think that the Google homepage provided millions of ad for days that helped sell 80,000 units. Possibly… But we should not forget that the Nexus One is the first phone that was sponsored by Google , moreover, many people say that it is better if compare it with the iPhone.
